The complex, called Sharp Green Front Sakai, enables integrated production of panels for 40- to 60-inch LCD televisions. The products will be sold both at home and abroad. "Demand for panels (from TV makers) is already outstripping supply," a senior company official said. The panel plant is connected with covered supply routes with other factories that make parts such as color filters and mother glass. Transport vehicles run through the corridors so supplies will not collect dust or other impurities. The complex, about 1.27 million square meters in area, accommodates facilities of 18 other companies. At the site, a solar cell plant is due to begin operations by next March. Some of the cells to be assembled will be installed on factory roofs at the complex to meet the facilities' power needs. "Since the parts transport activities inside the complex hardly emit carbon dioxide and the products made there are eco-friendly, the complex represents a state-of-the-art business model from an environmental perspective," the company official said.
