The chairman of Tulsa-based BOK Financial Corp. and primary owner of Kaiser-Francis Oil Co. ranked 24th on the list of Forbes 400 Richest Americans 2009. His net worth was listed at $9.5 billion.
Kaiser joins five other Oklahomans who made the annual list, including Lynn Schusterman of Tulsa at No. 236 with a net worth of $1.5 billion. Schusterman, with her late husband Charles Schusterman, established the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, which promotes Jewish learning, art and culture.
Other Oklahomans ranked are Harold Hamm, chairman and CEO of Enid-based Continental Resources Inc., at No. 39 with $5.8 billion; Hobby Lobby CEO David Green at No. 123 with $2.5 billion; and Aubrey McClendon, chairman and CEO of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp., and Oklahoma City businessman Mitchell Malone III, each with $1 billion and ranked No. 371.
This year marked the fifth time since 1982 that the collective net worth of the Forbes 400 has declined, the magazine reported.
The list provides a snapshot of wealth on Sept. 10.
Overall, the net worth of the nation's richest people fell $300 billion in the past 12 months from $1.57 trillion to $1.27 trillion, according to the magazine. Kaiser's net worth, for instance, is down $2.5 billion in the past 12 months, the magazine said.
Forbes points to "falling capital markets and real
estate prices, along with divorce and fraud" as factors that contributed to the falling fortunes of 314 members and the removal of 32 others.
Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates remained the richest American for the 16th straight year, with a net worth listed at $50 billion
