Singapore Airlines currently has a daily morning flight while SilkAir has twice-daily frequencies to Penang. By taking over the Singapore Airlines flight, SilkAir will serve Penang three times daily, with a morning frequency in addition to the current afternoon and evening frequencies. The flights are subject to regulatory approvals.
Having SilkAir on the Singapore-Penang route optimises the utilisation of the SIA Group's resources and presents a better match of capacity to demand. With SilkAir, customers can rest assured that they will enjoy a level of warm cabin service and reliability synonymous with the SIA Group branding.
"SilkAir looks forward to expanding our presence in Penang through the addition of our third daily flight between Penang and Singapore. Since the launch of SilkAir's services on the Singapore-Penang route in June this year, we have received a very good response from our customers through healthy loads and positive feedback on our inflight service. With three times daily services from 1 December 2009, we hope to count on their continued support," said Mr Chin Yau Seng, SilkAir's Chief Executive.
Rich in culture, history and heritage, Penang is one of Malaysia's top tourist draws. Its largest city, Georgetown, features charming colonial buildings and villas that are best explored on foot. Due to its multicultural history of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences, Penang is also well known as Malaysia's food paradise with must-try dishes like the famous Penang laksa and char kway teow.
SilkAir also flies to four other cities in Malaysia, namely Kota Kinabalu (six times weekly), Kuching (three times weekly), Langkawi (six times weekly) and Kuala Lumpur (30 times weekly).
Customers who have made advance bookings to fly the Singapore-Penang route on Singapore Airlines will be re-accommodated on SilkAir flights.
