Andrea Hopson, Vice-President, Tiffany & Co. Canada, has announced that renowned Canadian recording artists Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, lead singer of Our Lady Peace, will be the recipients of the 2009 Tiffany Mark Award to be presented at a private cocktail celebration at Tiffany's Toronto Bloor Street store on October 7th. The Tiffany Mark Award, named after the company's famed Mark watch, honours Canadian men and women who are making their "mark" both professionally and in their community through tireless efforts on behalf of charities and organizations they care about deeply. The first Tiffany Mark Award was presented to Wayne Gretzky in 2002.
Chantal and Raine, who are husband and wife, have worked tirelessly on behalf of human rights causes and organizations to which they are committed. Both are avid supporters of War Child Canada, donating their time and talents to the organization through fundraising performances and participating in documentary film projects to build awareness of the plight of children in war-torn countries. Dear to both are War Child fundraising projects that build schools for children in Africa; last year Raine famously "busked" in locations around Toronto to raise money to rebuild a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chantal has given numerous concerts for this and other War Child projects. Both have travelled to war-torn countries on the organization's behalf.
Committed to helping stamp out the stigmas that surround mental health, Chantal is a spokesperson for the Canadian Mental Health Association, creating public service announcements on its behalf. In addition, both volunteer their time in support of environmental issues. Chantal has been a spokesperson for Polar Bears International and is committed to the University of Winnipeg's Opportunity Fund, which provides tuition assistance to inner city youth. Raine is an active supporter of Apathy is Boring, an organization that encourages Canadian youth to become engaged in the political process.
Each highly successful in their own right, Chantal and Raine are also creative collaborators. Chantal is the winner of two Juno Awards for "Best Female Artist" and "Best Pop/Adult Album." Raine has won three Juno awards with Our Lady Peace. With close ties to their families in Canada, the couple resides in both Los Angeles and Toronto with their three sons Rowan, Lucca and Salvador.
"The Tiffany Mark Award is about professional achievement and hands-on support of charitable organizations," Andrea Hopson explains.
