The meeting will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Star City Municipal Building on Broadway Avenue.
"This project is very important, and it affects both the people and the town," Star City Councilman Anthony Giambrone said. "We want to see what the public thinks about everything."
Representatives from URS Corp. will be at the meeting to explain their findings on ways to ease the traffic congestion on Boyers Avenue from Monongahela Boulevard to the intersection with University Avenue. In May, the Star City Town Council approved a contract with the Morgantown-based consultant company for $48,618 paid through the Star City Tax-Increment Financing (TIF) fund.
The contract was finalized in June after being accepted and entered into the county's record by the Monongalia County Commission. Star City Police Chief Vic Propst estimates that up to 70 percent of the vehicle accidents in Star City occur at the intersection of Boyers Avenue and Monongahela Boulevard.
"It's a terrible intersection because everything gets bottled up right there," Propst said.
He said the mix of local traffic combined with people using Star City's roads as a shortcut creates the increased traffic on the small side streets.
"The traffic lights on [Monongahela] Boulevard are designed to keep people moving along the boulevard, and with the short lights, traffic backs up all along University and Boyers" Propst said. "There's just a whole combination of different things that make it a powder keg."
