"Flexibility is an important consideration as telecom service providers upgrade their networks. In addition, as consumers continue to demand 'any service, anytime' availability, access providers must also make available the software solutions that ensure superior QoE," said Erik M. Keith, Principal Analyst, Broadband Infrastructure at leading analyst firm Current Analysis. "Occam's BLC 6216 VDSL2 blade, and the corollary software solutions incorporated by OS release 7.0, provides operators with an important new option to extend the lifespan of their copper networks."
Demonstrating the simplicity inherent in Occam products and networks, Occam's innovative distributed intelligence approach enables the new VDSL2 blade to operate in the Occam BLC 6000 system. Its single rack unit (RU) footprint allows it to function as a stand-alone network element in street cabinet and MDU/MTU applications or in larger deployments with other BLC 6000 blades for high-density central office deployments. This flexible approach to network design simplifies the migration from older DSL technologies or platforms to VDSL2 as operators push fiber deeper into the loop to meet the broadband needs of consumers and businesses.
When used with a dual-mode VDSL2/ADSL2Plus modem, the 48-port BLC 6216 delivers a VDSL2 connection to single family residences (SFRs), MDUs/MTUs and small and medium businesses within 4000 feet and transitions to longer reach ADSL2Plus technology when placed in nodes at further distances.
Leveraging Occam's experience in IP service delivery, the BLC 6216 features an extensive suite of software features including IP Security Management (IPSM), which allows for dynamic, "hands free" broadband network security. To assure the highest QoE, Occam's Video Channel Analysis (VCA) tool is embedded in BLC 6000 blades to monitor IPTV services.
"Whether looking to increase bandwidth for residential or enterprise subscribers, the BLC 6216 is a high performance, cost-effective solution that enables operators to leverage existing copper infrastructure and in building wiring," said Juan Vela, Director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy for Occam Networks. "Occam designed the BLC 6216 with performance, application flexibility and operational savings in mind. The values enable operators to attract customers, increase revenues and simplify their networks."
