Two hard-hitting fast teams, both with big playoff expectations, met at the Albemarle football stadium Friday night.
A blocked punt and return for a touchdown quashed the visitors' hopes of a win as the Bulldogs scored four times in the final five minutes of the second quarter to take down WestaEUR^Montgomery 49-7.
The play-action passing game of Albemarle (6-0, 2-0 YVC) accounted for three touchdowns in the game from quarterback Nat Dunlap.
Malcolm Hammond was on the receiving end of two of those, including a 55-yard score that include a spin-o-rama past one West defender and running over another at the goal line.
Albemarle got great field position on their first drive after a bad punt snap by West Montgomery (3-3, 1-1 YVC).
A.J. Little, who would finish with two touchdown runs, scored two plays later to give Albemarle the lead.
In the second quarter, Shontigo Parker blocked a West punt and Damond Kelly picked up the loose ball and went 35 yards for the score.
That score set off a flurry of offense as the Bulldogs would score three touchdows in the final 2:03 of the second quarter to lead 42-0.
The Warriors' lone score of the game came with 6:35 left in the fourth quarter when a Jaquil Capel pass just got over the head of an Albemarle defender to Terry Pegues, who raced 79 yards down the field for the score.
The points by West were only the fourth touchdown of the year scored against the Bulldogs as the Oak Tree defense held West Montgomery to 39 yards rushing on 28 carries.
Albemarle will be on the road this Friday night when the Bulldogs travel to South Davidson.
