By taking over the daily SIA flight, SilkAir will serve Penang three times daily, with a morning frequency in addition to the current afternoon and evening frequencies. The flights are subject to regulatory approvals.
Offering three flights daily with SilkAir on the Singapore-Penang route optimises the SIA Group's resources and better matches capacity with demand, Silkair said in a statement.
"Since the launch of SilkAir's services on the Singapore-Penang route in June this year, we have received a very good response from our customers through healthy loads and positive feedback on our in-flight service. With three times daily services from 1 December 2009, we hope to count on their continued support," said SilkAir's chief executive Chin Yau Seng.
SilkAir also flies to four other cities in Malaysia, namely Kota Kinabalu (six times weekly), Kuching (three times weekly), Langkawi (six times weekly) and Kuala Lumpur (30 times weekly).
