This programme gives developers transparent control of the promotion and growth of their business and a choice of opportunities that utilises the web as a channel, to promote applications to market.
Palm earlier announced that developers wanting to charge for their Palm webOS applications could submit them in the Palm Application Catalogue e-commerce beta programme which went live today, for consideration. The membership based programme will have a USD99 annual fee.
Developers will receive 70% of gross revenues generated through application sales (after applicable taxes), while Palm keeps 30% and developers will be offered two options for getting their applications to market, web distribution and through the Palm Application Catalogue.
Palm will provide a sales transaction and fulfilment service for the web distribution, with very Application receiving a unique URL for customers to download and install the application directly to their phone, besides a fast self-certification process for developers to control the distribution and promotion and creating new ones as required, as well.
Applications distributed in the Palm Application Catalogue, built in to every Palm webOS device, will be reviewed by the company and developers pay a nominal per-application fee of USD50. In addition, Palm will create a unique promotional marketplace for developers to use, an auction process for prominent placement in the Catalogue and find new customers.
