The 22-year-old is expected to appear in 41A District Court in Sterling Heights on a bank robbery charge, Sterling Heights Police Lt. Luke Riley said.
He said the man entered the Comerica Bank, 13655 Fifteen Mile, about 4 p.m. Monday and told the teller "you are not going to like me very much." The man then passed a note stating that he had a gun and demanding money without dye packs, Riley said.
He said the teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a red Chevrolet Blazer that was last seen traveling north on Schoenherr.
About 35 minutes later, Warren police spotted the SUV driving south on Van Dyke at Westminster. The man pulled over, but took off as officers approached the SUV. He then pulled into the parking lot of a nearby business and stopped, Riley said.
Officers followed him into the parking lot and again approached the vehicle, but the man drove off again heading south on Van Dyke through a red light.
Police pursued him and while driving on Packard in Detroit, he began throwing money out the window of the SUV, Riley said.
The pursuit ended in the area of Mt. Elliott and Davison in Detroit when the man pulled into a parking lot. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Police recovered a small amount of money inside the SUV. None of the money tossed out the window was recovered, Riley said.
He said man is being investigated for possible involvement in similar robberies in other jurisdictions.
