They said the firm will appeal the verdict in favor of the competitor of YPF and Repsol YPF Gas in the Argentine domestic market.
The ruling came in a case filed by Auto-o-Gas claiming that "abusive trading conditions" for LPG had been established in a 1994 contract.
The ruling means that Repsol YPF Gas and YPF will have to pay a fine that, with interest, could exceed 50 million pesos ($14 million) for "abuse of their dominant position and other anti-competitive behavior," judicial sources quoted in the press said.
Repsol YPF Gas sells the LPG that YPF produces to households and businesses.
The verdict noted that YPF exported LPG at $100 per ton while selling the fuel in Argentina for $400 per ton.
This type of activity falls into the category of "the actions of a company that enjoys a dominant position in the domestic market" and that abused that position "to restrict the growth of domestic supply," keeping prices high for Argentine customers, the sources said. EFE
