The Brewer Planning Board on Monday approved a site plan for a 6,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse for the discount flooring distribution center at 2 Rudman Road, next to Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes on Wilson Street.
"We have to do some heating and electric work, install exit signs and get the bathrooms in order," Baker said. "We have to install shelving, and a hardwood floor so people can see examples, and all that."
The city is requiring Lawrence Springer, the building's owner, to install two restrooms that comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act, David Russell, Brewer code enforcement officer, said Tuesday.
"There are no bathrooms" in the area of the building that is being developed, he said.
The project will feature a 1,000-square-foot showroom and a 5,000-square-foot warehouse area, Russell said.
The Brewer store is the 182nd Lumber Liquidators to open nationally, and the second one in Maine. The business offers "hardwood flooring at the best prices," said Baker, who is moving to the area from Old Orchard Beach.
One local person has been hired to help at the Brewer shop, and Baker said he expects to hire another in the near future.
Those interested in finding out more can stop by and see Baker, who is working out of a trailer set up at the site until the showroom opens.
"I can take orders," he said. "And my trailer is quite the showroom."
During the meeting, the planning board also:
- Approved the site plan for a 1,500-square-foot storage building at Hillman MacEwen Real Estate on Sparks Avenue.
- Amended the property lines of two parcels that border each other on Green Point Road and Wilson Street. The back property line for MSB Leasing, 581 Wilson St., was moved back, making the abutting property, owned by Robert Higgins, smaller. Planners also approved a fill and grading plan for the new, larger parcel for MSB Leasing.
- Approved a nutrition counseling and yoga center for Charles and Julie Milan, who have built space for the business above their new garage at 609 S. Main St.
