Taylor has been with Montpelier (NYSE: MRH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) since its inception in 2001 after a 34-year career in the Lloyd's and London market, Montpelier said in a statement. Taylor, who held the roles of president, chief executive officer and chief underwriting officer, successfully led the company through an initial public offering in 2002. He's also credited with steering the reinsurer's global expansion. Taylor became chairman in February 2004.
In 2008, Taylor relinquished the CEO role and assumed the position of executive chairman (BestWire, Nov. 21, 2007). Christopher Harris replaced Taylor as chief executive in July 2008 (BestWire, March 14, 2008).
Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd. currently has a Best's Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent).
The morning of Oct. 7, shares of Montpelier Re were selling at $17.15, up about 1.4% from the previous close.
