SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct 07, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- IMMR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Immersion Corporation (NASDAQ:IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that its TouchSense(R) haptics technology is now available to developers wishing to seamlessly integrate touch feedback into applications on the new Nokia N900 mobile computer, based on Maemo software. Immersion's TouchSense technology improves efficiency and intuitiveness by providing confirmation of touchscreen presses, and adds improved accuracy, depth and fun to content such as ringtones, videos, games and music.

At the Maemo Summit 2009, Oct. 9 -- 11, in Amsterdam, Immersion will demonstrate various applications of its technology for Maemo on Nokia N900 handsets, including a haptics-enabled version of the popular game Bounce.

"Phones and mobile computers are converging and are increasingly complex, so an intuitive, differentiated user experience is vital," said Craig Vachon, senior vice president and general manager of Immersion's Touch line of business. "Immersion's technology lets Maemo developers design the finest experiences by leveraging the sense of touch through integrating haptic feedback."

Currently in beta, the TouchSense player for Maemo is scheduled to be in production by the end of the year. TouchSense Player can be installed as add-on software by developers who can start designing innovative user experiences that engage the sense of touch on the Nokia N900 by downloading the TouchSense Software Development Kit from Immersion's developer website.

To date, more than 70 million handsets from the top three mobile phone manufacturers have shipped around the world with Immersion's high-fidelity, programmable haptics technology.
