Rusty Leonard, a spokesman for Rural/Metro, said firefighters were dispatched to a home at 10621 E. 36th St. at about 10:15 a.m.
Firefighters arrived on scene in about seven minutes but did not see any active flames within the residence.
"There was heavy smoke coming from the front door, windows and the eaves," Leonard said. "There was also someone there using a hose to spray water in through one of the windows."
Leonard said firefighters immediately entered the residence but never encountered any flames. The fire had appeared to have been confined to the back two bedrooms and had been extinguished already.
The home, however, sustained severe smoke and heat damage, Leonard said.
One female resident of the home had to be transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation, according to Leonard. There were no other injuries.
The Red Cross was also called to the scene to help the residents of the home.
Leonard said Rural/Metro's fire marshal was still on the scene as of 3 p.m. trying to determine the cause of the fire.
In addition to the firefighters, Rural/Metro responded with three engines, a water tender and an ambulance.
