Its most upscale vehicle yet, Suzuki developed The Kizashi with overseas markets in mind, but decided to tap demand in Japan as well. The minivehicle specialist started developing midsize and large vehicles with engine sizes of at least 2 liters five years ago in a bid to expand abroad. The Kizashi will be equipped with a new 2.4-liter engine.
But the automaker temporarily halted development projects after the worldwide financial crisis last year depressed the market for new vehicles.
Suzuki has resumed such efforts, however, with its Makinohara, Shizuoka Prefecture, plant having launched mass production of the Kizashi for the U.S. market. The factory will also make the Kizashi for the home market, where the car will cost more than 2 million yen.
The Kizashi will also be sold in India and China in the future.
