AKH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Air France-KLM Cargo plans to reorganize its freight operations and push up its freight rates as part of its strategies to lower costs and step up revenues, reported Cargonews Asia.
According to the news source, AF-KLM Cargo plans to transfer two more freighters to Dutch sister carrier Martinair. The company had earlier transferred two of its B747-400ERFs to Martinair in June 2009. By moving the freighters to Martinair, AF-KLM hopes to capitalize on the Martinair's efficiency and flexibility of operation.
The combined AF/KLM/Martinair group plans to begin the 2009-10 winter season schedule with about 20% less cargo capacity compared with pre-crisis levels. Also, it will operate about 40% less full freighter capacity in the winter of 2009 compared with the summer of 2008, the report said.
AF-KLM Cargo reportedly intends to continue operating full freighters in centers generating strong cargo flows like Chicago and Shanghai and niche sectors such as those served by Martinair in South America and Africa and Air France in West Africa.
