Oct 11, 2009 (Times-Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- DVLY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Vallejo High School football team fell to a 5-0 Deer Valley team, 28-7, on Friday in a nonleague game in Antioch.

The Apaches finish the preseason with a 1-4 mark.

"I felt we did a good job at times," Vallejo coach Mike Wilson said. "We shut down their fly runner down but they ran some cross stuff up the middle."

Wilson felt like his team gave away nine points. Deer Valley scored on a safety on a bad snap and the Apaches nearly had an interception but the ball hit off the chest of a player but turned out to be a touchdown for Deer Valley.

Aaron Brasher had a 1-yard touchdown run for the Apaches' lone score. Vallejo rushed for just 59 yards on the night.

Quarterback Andrew Brightwell left the game after re-injuring his groin. Jacob

Beedle handled the duties in the third quarter and Travis Lee was the quarterback in the fourth.

Brightwell was 5-for-12 for 50 yards. Wilson wasn't sure if Brightwell will play next week at Benicia in the Solano County Athletic

Conference opener.

Spartans fall on road

Hogan lost to host McClymonds of

Oakland, 24-12, in a nonleague game on

Friday.

The Spartans concluded the preseason with a 2-2 mark. The Mack improved to 3-2.

Marquize Pearson rushed for 100 yards on 12 carries and Elliott Patterson had 75 yards on 17 carries.

Hogan coach Tracy Green said his team had a couple of fumbles after big runs, one of those in the end zone.

Green said the bye week might have

had some effect.

"It was good in some ways because we were able to look at some things and rest some people," he said. "But as far as game tempo, we weren't at their speed."

Brian Fite scored on a 30-yard reverse and Pearson scored on a 2-yard run, but McClymonds quarterback Robert Bingham tossed a 66-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
