The addition is part of AMC Entertainment's plan to install 100 IMAX projection systems in 33 markets through 2010.
The movie is an adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story, where a disobedient little boy creates his own world -- a forest inhabited by wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.
To achieve the IMAX experience in a theater multiplex, AMC replaced an old screen with a larger, slightly curved screen closer to the audience. The sound system was also replaced by loudspeaker technology that cuts down on distortion.
On Wednesday, Oct. 28, fans will can see Michael Jackson's "This Is It" in the IMAX theater. The movie, which will only be in theaters for two weeks, shows rehearsal footage from what was to be the King of Pop's upcoming concert tour. Tickets are on sale now.
Upcoming movies also include Disney's "A Christmas Carol" on Nov. 6, "Avatar" on Dec. 18, "Alice in Wonderland" on March 5, "How to Train Your Dragon" on March 26 and "Shrek Goes Fourth" on May 21.
Tickets for the movies are being sold online for $10-$15. The Hampton Towne Center is located at 1 Town Center Way, Hampton. For movie times and tickets visit amctheatres.com or call 826-3287.
