Summit Global Group announced today that it will develop camera and film products through a licensing agreement with PLR IP Holdings LLC -- co-owned by Gordon Brothers Group of Boston -- and a partnership with The Impossible Project -- a business owned by Austrian photographer Florian Kaps that acquired an old Polaroid film factory in Amsterdam.
Polaroid abandoned its instant film business last year, shuttering factories in Massachusetts, Mexico and the Netherlands -- and leaving Polaroid fans with a finite amount of film.
The company filed for bankruptcy in December, the once-mighty Bay State brand's second run through Chapter 11 reorganization.
Summit Global -- which inked a licensing deal with Gordon Brothers and its Polaroid brand partner Hilco Consumer Capital in June -- plans to bring back many of Polaroid's film formats.
"This is the beginning of our instant analog directive that will span a family of products and return Polaroid to a relevant industry participant," said Giovanni Tomaselli, managing director of Utah-based Summit Global.
Summit is also working with Zink Imaging Inc. of Bedford on instant digital-photo products. Last summer, Polaroid unveiled a PoGo printer that uses Zink's technology.
