Each year, quarterly winners are selected, and an overall winner is determined by a vote of the National Motorsports Press Association membership.
Stewart was honored based on his numerous charitable acts. His second annual fantasy camp at Texas Motor Speedway in early August raised more than $175,000 with proceeds going to Speedway Children's Charities.
Stewart 's "Prelude to the Dream" charity event was held at Eldora Speedway in September with proceeds from that race benefiting four entities that support severely injured military personnel and families of fallen soldiers.
David Poole of The Charlotte Observer won the first quarter honor posthumously. Jeff Kerr, a jackman at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, won the second quarter award.
