SUNNYVALE, CA, Oct 14, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- ARUN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that Post University is deploying 802.11n Wi-Fi networks pervasively throughout its 58-acre Waterbury, Connecticut campus. Founded in 1890, Post University offers a traditional on-campus environment as well as a rapidly growing on-line program. To address growing demand from faculty, students, and staff for universal wireless access, the university wanted to deploy a comprehensive campus-wide network that would deliver state-of-the-art performance today, and be supplied by a vendor with whom the university could work as a partner for subsequent generations of upgrades. Following a review of available solutions, and an in-depth technical and business assessment of short-listed vendors, Post University selected Aruba's 802.11n solution. The network was installed by Aruba authorized partner, Apex Systems, Inc.

"I was looking for a cutting-edge solution that would help the university realize its vision of providing a 'gold standard' wireless experience that enables faculty, staff and students to use the network as a flexible, secure teaching and learning tool wherever they are on campus," said Michael Statmore, Post University's Director of University IT. "With this new system, all of our classrooms can become instant 'smart rooms,' able to support interactive two-way video broadcasts, electronic white boarding, and on-line multi-media applications. And we won't have to sacrifice security to realize the full potential of these tools. Our new system features network access control with endpoint compliance, wireless intrusion detection, and common policies for wireless and wired network access so that students, faculty, and staff using desktop computers have the same experience as those using laptops."

The new Post University wireless network blankets classroom, lecture halls, administrative buildings, and dormitories, and even outside gathering places. To deliver a best-in-class wireless experience across these diverse locations, Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology uses infrastructure-based controls to optimize the performance of Wi-Fi clients in real-time. Acting on their own, Wi-Fi clients do not always work cooperatively with other clients, or select the optimal band, channel, and access point. These issues are exacerbated in settings with densely packed users such as university classrooms and lecture halls. ARM uses a variety of techniques to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, thereby ensuring that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources, including airtime, to operate properly.

"We evaluated a wide field of potential vendors for our campus build-out, from the very largest to the smallest niche Wi-Fi array manufacturer. From the outset, Aruba stood out," continued Statmore. "They educated us about their current and future products, discussed a range of different deployment options -- including reviewing wired security options and remote network access for off-site university locations -- and sent in a team of senior executives to affirm their commitment. We are not Aruba's largest university customer, but you'd never know it by the service we've received."
