In this newly created position, Mr Pearce will focus on the identification, selection and negotiation of potential acquisitions and joint ventures for Smith International outside of North America. Mr Pearce will report to CEO, president and COO John Yearwood and remain based in Houston.
The company has appointed Norman Mckay, currently president of eastern hemisphere of Exterran, a position that he has held since April 2005, as president of Smith Technologies, effective November 1, 2009.
Prior to his tenure at Exterran, and its predecessor Hanover, Mr Mckay had been employed by Schlumberger since 1981. During his 24 years with Schlumberger, Mr Mckay gained extensive experience in field operations as well as general management covering all aspects of the international oil and gas service industry.
Mr Yearwood said: "Under Mike's leadership, Smith Technologies has introduced new products and technologies to the market, enhanced drill bit performance and solidified its position as an industry leader in advanced drill bit technology.
"Norrie's extensive global oilfield service experience will enable Smith Technologies to focus on increased technological and business development in high growth areas."
