ACS to develop Kentucky health information exchange

provider Affiliated Computer Services Inc (NYSE:ACS) today announced
that it has been awarded a three year contract by the US State of
Kentucky to develop and maintain the initial phases of the Kentucky
Health Information Exchange (KHIE).

The company said that the contract, valued at USD4.5m, will develop a
system that will allow electronic medical data to be exchanged between
hospitals, health care practitioners and the Kentucky Department for
Medicaid Services.

The system will connect healthcare providers by providing instantaneous
access to items such as laboratory and image reports, medication
histories, allergy histories, past medical diagnoses, hospital stays
and immunisation.

Funding for the pilot project comes from the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services. The State intends to seek further funding under the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for statewide expansion.
