Bridgestone to build new factory for solar cell films
BRDCF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Bridgestone Corp. said Wednesday it will invest around 4.4 billion yen to build a new factory in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, to manufacture films for use in solar cells.
The company plans to start film production in the latter half of 2011 with a monthly target of 1,200 tons, it said.
Bridgestone currently accounts for 30 percent of the global market, with 1,500 tons of film manufactured each month in a factory in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The leading automobile tire maker also intends to double film production capacity at the Iwata factory by the first half of 2011, it added.
