BOSTON, Oct 14, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NST | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Recognizing that customers are best served by real-time information about products and services, NSTAR has become the first Massachusetts-based utility to use Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to supplement more traditional forms of customer outreach. By opting to follow the company's tweets, posts and videos, NSTAR customers will have access to breaking news, photos, and video that will keep them informed of company happenings and help them stay up-to-date on the important energy issues of the day.

"The popularity of social media websites is growing everyday and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to reach our customers and share information," said Tom May, NSTAR Chairman, President and CEO. "By launching our own sites, NSTAR has become a local utility leader in making sure our customers have yet another way to get real-time information from us."

While NSTAR's website will continue to be the primary online source for information and interactive communication, customers are invited to visit the company's new Twitter and Facebook pages, and view YouTube videos, for updates about energy efficiency and renewable energy options; general company news; and power restoration during major storms. To view NSTAR's tweets, customers should follow @NSTAR_News on Twitter. Those wishing to receive the company's Facebook postings should list themselves as fans on the NSTAR Electric & Gas Facebook page.

NSTAR is the largest Massachusetts-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility. The company transmits and delivers electricity and natural gas to 1.4 million customers in Eastern and Central Massachusetts, including more than one million electric customers in 81 communities and 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities.
