But the company's hotel segment needs a sustained economic upturn, and increased consumer and business confidence, to fully recover, Marcus said. Meanwhile, Marcus Corp. will use its strong balance sheet, and a vibrant theater business, to help deal with the recession, he said.
The company's strong finances have allowed it to spend $36 million on capital investments in fiscal 2009, company executives said. The projects include renovations at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center and Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, in Lake Geneva. The company will spend $30 million on those improvements, with the Hilton project to be finished in 2010.
