JAPAN'S BRIDGESTONE TO RAISE SOLAR CELL FILM OUTPUT CAPACITY
BRDCF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Japan-listed Bridgestone Corp.
(TSE:5108) announced plans Wednesday to increase its production
capacity for solar module adhesive film by 40 per cent in the
second half of 2011, bringing the total to 4,200 tons a
month.
The firm will spend about 4.4 billion yen (US$49.2 million)
to introduce production lines for ethylene vinyl acetate film
at a factory in Seki, Gifu Prefecture. This will come on top of
a 5.4 billion yen investment already under way for raising
output capacity at an Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, plant by
1,000 tons a month by the summer of 2011.
To date, Bridgestone has produced all its EVA film at the
Iwata site. But with the solar cell market growing worldwide,
the company has decided to expand capacity more aggressively
and to spread risks by having two manufacturing bases.
The firm is believed to control roughly 30 per cent of the
global market for EVA film.
