A former resident of Chicago's Gold Coast, Mrs. Brumback, 81, and her husband became full-year residents of Florida in 2005.
The daughter of a General Motors executive, the former Mary Howe was the roommate of Brumback's sister at Abbot Academy in Massachusetts. She went on to graduate from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and was married in July 1951.
Mrs. Brumback lived in Florida from 1958 to 1981 as her husband was an executive with the Orlando Sentinel, which Tribune Co. has owned since 1965.
The Brumbacks moved to Chicago in 1981 when he was named Tribune Co.'s president and CEO.
Mr. Brumback stepped down as Tribune Co.'s chairman and CEO in 1995.
During her years in Chicago, Mrs. Brumback volunteered in the surgical waiting room at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, her daughter said. She was also involved with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, Allen said.
Other survivors include her husband; two sons, Charles Jr. and Wesley; another daughter, Anne Meyer; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday in Sarasota and Oct. 23 in Orlando.
