October 16, 2009 (FinancialWire) -- United Technologies Corp.'s (NYSE: UTX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) Pratt & Whitney unit and Colombian aviation maintenance firm ITR, or Turborreactores, S.A. de C.V., have signed a five-year exclusive material support agreement with an estimated value of more than $8 million.
The agreement covers new compressor blades and vanes for the P&W JT8D engine. The JT8D was introduced into commercial service in 1964 with the inaugural flight of Boeing's 727-100 aircraft.
Variants of the line have been produced for such aircraft as the 727, 737, and DC-9. More than 14,000 JT8D engines have been produced.
Cartagena-based ITR offers capabilities in the areas of engine maintenance and repair, specialty manufacturing and technical design and development for a variety of gas turbine engines.
Connecticut-based Pratt & Whitney is engaged in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.
