Kawate's 71 leads
Mike Kawate shot a 71 yesterday to take a two-stroke lead after one round of the Turtle Bay Amateur.
UH in last place
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team shot a 319 yesterday for a two-round total of 75-over 642 that kept the Rainbow Wahine in last place of the 15-team Stanford Intercollegiate tournament.
Arizona State leads with 282--555.
Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (71) and Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda (70) share the lead at 137. Corie Hou leads UH with 74--156 (tie 68th).
UCLA's Stephanie Kono, a Punahou alum, shot 75--144 (tie 22nd) and Denver's Kimberly Kim, a former Big Island resident, 73--150 (tie 45th).

Chaminade drops 2
Jordan Roylance scored two goals as Dixie State beat host Chaminade, 3-1, yesterday in a men's match. The Red Storm are 4-6-1, 2-5. Charles Johnson scored for the Silverswords (2-9, 1-7).

CROSS COUNTRY
BYUH sweeps
Brigham Young-Hawai'i dominated its invitational yesterday, taking the top spots individually and winning both team titles.
Spencer Deavila won the men's race in 25 minutes, 7 seconds, the second-fastest 8K in school history. The Seasiders had 24 points to beat runner-up Hawai'i-Hilo by 23 points.
Lacey Krout won the women's 5K in 19:12 and the Seasiders took four of the top five spots to score 19 points and beat runner-up Hawai'i Pacific by 29 points.
