Nissan plans to annually produce 70,000 units of the Bluebird Sylphy small sedan at the Avtovaz facilities, said Grigory Khvorostyanov, vice president of Russia's largest carmaker, based in the town of Tolyatti.
Nissan's top shareholder Renault SA of France, which bought a 25 percent stake in the Russian automaker in 2008, also plans to annually manufacture 140,000 units of two models from 2013.
Renault and Nissan will invest a total of 240 million euros in Avtovaz for the production launch.
A Nissan executive has visited Russia and reached a basic agreement with the Russian automaker on Nissan's production plan, although it needs a final endorsement by the Japanese automaker, Khvorostyanov said.
"It is true that we are considering production of Nissan-brand cars at a plant of Avtovaz, but we have not yet decided details such as what model to produce and when to launch production," a Nissan official said.
In June, Nissan kicked off production of the Teana luxury sedan and the X-Trail sport utility vehicle at its plant in Russia's St. Petersburg with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units.
