After enjoying early dominance in the first half with crispy set-pieces amidst wacky open play, KCB were to capitulate in the second half after they were forced to play three men short for 30 minutes when referee Godwin Karuga sin-binned their players including captain Edwin Alubaka.
Quins will now meet Kenya Cup champions, Impala RFC, in the final next weekend at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa grounds. Winger Leon Adongo ran in the vital try as substitute scrum half Jude Thumbi converted in addition to two penalties to give Quins the victory.
But not after centre Dennis Muhanji sealed another penalty for the Ngong Road-based side. KCB's score were through penalties by their scrum half Peter Mutai. The match was a return leg after the two sides locked at 8-8 last weekend.
KCB will rue their missed chances courtesy of awful kicking from Mutai, who missed three penalties with two coming in the first half and in front of the poles.
Quins' backline, that comprised most of their Under-19s, also produced a thrilling display. Nevertheless, KCB were a marvel to watch with some well-crafted open play coupled with pulsating rucking.
But they could only settled for penalties as Quins stood firm as they opted to play from the ruck for the better part of the session.
Mutai drew first blood for KCB with a well taken penalty in the 19th minute but was to miss two in the 30th and 35th minutes. KCB led 3-0 at the break. Even though Mutai gave KCB a 6-0 lead from a penalty, things started going awry from KCB when Quins went loose after they shifted their gears from mauling to spreading the ball wide.
