Newsmakers and their pets will "paws" on a Green Carpet as North Shore Animal League America opens the doors at the Fourth Annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala presented by Purina One(R) brand pet food. This unique event will take place Thursday, November 5, 6:00 PM, at the luxurious Cipriani Wall Street, New York City. Master of Ceremonies for the Gala will be one of television's most revered and enduring figures, Geraldo Rivera, senior correspondent and host of Fox News Channel's Geraldo at Large. Martha Stewart, award-winning television host, author, entrepreneur and founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, will be among those taking part in the evening's festivities. Singer-songwriter Diane Birch, whose debut album with S-Curve Records is entitled Bible Belt, will perform.

The DogCatemy Celebrity Gala reflects the Animal League's belief in the unique and loving bond between pets and their owners. Some of the animal-loving stars who will be participating as filmmakers and attendees include Animal League Spokesperson Beth Stern and the "King of All Media" Howard Stern; tennis legend Monica Seles; award-winning American composer Marvin Hamlisch; Law & Order: SVU actress Diane Neal; Dreamgirls composer Henry Krieger; New York Islanders Goalie Rick DiPietro, One Life to Live actress Bree Williamson, Fox News Channel's Juliet Huddy, as well as socialites, authors and other influentials.
As is tradition, the DogCatemy Celebrity Gala invites celebrities to create videos about their pets and submit them for Hollywood-style awards: Best Pawformance, Best Reel Life Tail; Best Tail Waggin' Comedy, Best Dogumentary and Best in Show. The winner in each category receives the Animal League's Crystal Collar Award.
Co-chairing the 2009 DogCatemy Celebrity Gala are Dr. Jennifer Jablow, animal advocate and "Dentist to the Stars" and Prince Lorenzo Borghese, reality show star and creator of luxury pet products. This year, Gala-going pets will be very much at home as the Animal League creates a dog park theme, featuring larger-than-life American Dog Sculptures by artist Dale Rogers. It will showcase 16 Limited-Edition American Dog metal sculpture canines created by Rogers. Each 6-foot sculpture is numbered and made of Cor-ten steel. American Dog blends Rogers' artistic genius with his passion for helping animals. Each piece will have the words "Animal League" etched into a leg of the sculpture. To add to the magic, he will also include a limited number of beautifully sculptured cats that stand on the dogs' backs, created specifically for the Gala to fully encompass the event title, "DogCatemy." A third of the proceeds of the sale of the sculptures will benefit the Animal League.

The annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala helps support North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, sustain its more than 60-year mission to rescue, nurture and adopt homeless pets into loving, permanent homes.
