NISUY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd.
(TSE:1332) will expand its business selling oils extracted and
refined from fish to include a new product for use in
moisturizing creams.

This particular oil is obtained from the skin of the orange
roughy, also known as the deep sea perch. It is a popular fish
in Australia and New Zealand, but the fish yields relatively
little edible meat, resulting in much waste after processing.

The oil extracted from the skin of this fish binds to lipid
acids and alcohols and has tremendous moisture-retaining
properties.

One major drawback is that this oil has a peculiar odor, but
Nippon Suisan has developed a way to eliminate the smell.

For the new business, group company Sealord Group Ltd. of
New Zealand will process the orange roughy and export the oil
to Japan, where Nippon Suisan's Kashima plant in Ibaraki
Prefecture will deodorize the oil and refine it for use as an
ingredient by makers of moisturizing creams.

Nippon Suisan will market this oil to cosmetics makers both
in Japan and overseas, hoping for sales of 300 million yen
(US$3.3 million) the first year.
