According to Wincanton, the direct import center will be based out of its existing site in Kettering and will see all container volume transported to one central base and distributed throughout the Micheldever network.
The site will reportedly process over 50,000 tires each week, ahead of their onward distribution into wholesale distribution centers to supply 22% of the UK tire market.
The new solution is expected to reduce lead-times onto site following arrival at the port as well as reducing product movement and handling across the network.
Martin Taylor, managing director of Wincanton, said: "We have a proven capability of developing innovative import solutions and were able to demonstrate to Micheldever Tyres the areas in which we could improve the efficiency of its business. With one in five tires on UK roads supplied by Micheldever, this new contract is one that has significant potential for growth for the benefit of both companies."
