Macau Government Agency Adopts Attunity's Real-Time Operational Data Replication (ODR) Solution

BURLINGTON, Massachusetts, October 20, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- ATTUF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Attunity Ltd. (OTC BB: ATTUF), a leading provider of real-time data integration and event capture software, announced today that its real-time operational data replication (ODR) software and low-impact CDC technology has been adopted by the Macau Government's Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (also known as IACM) in order to improve customer service quality and responsiveness for the Macau community, work more efficiently with other government agencies and save significant time and money on capital and human resources.

According to IACM, the epicenter for many civic departments that serve the Macau community, they wanted to enable bi-directional synchronization from several systems where customer/civilian and internal data is stored while ensuring that it could be made accessible to other government agencies in real-time. Doing so required addressing many technical challenges, specifically finding an efficient way to handle their mixed-language environment including multi-code Macau Chinese, Portuguese and English data stored in legacy iSeries systems and migrate the data into a common representation in an Oracle platform that serves the data in real-time.

According to IACM, before the Attunity operational data replication (ODR) solution was implemented, IACM had to create a tailored program for each data table, with limited ability to handle updates. This highly-intensive workflow not only demanded high use of hardware resources on a high percentage of redundant data transfers, but also used an unusually high amount of human resources to develop and manage the process. This also created significant overhead on the hardware, creating a truly costly scenario. As a result, replication requests needed on short notice were nearly impossible to fulfill.

Attunity responded to IACM's challenge with Attunity StreamFlow, an end-to-end operational data replication (ODR) solution that could be quickly configured and customized to address the complexity of IACM's mixed-language environment with Attunity's low-impact CDC technology that synchronizes the data via configuration and without re-programming for every data table. Since the Attunity solution is designed to easily handle heterogeneous environments, it replicated and logged all the changes bi-directionally from the iSeries and Oracle systems, making the data accessible in real-time through the IACM's web application.

"Attunity was simply the only vendor able to deliver the type of unique customization we needed in our situation," explained Mr. Kam Kong Lei, Senior IT Technician at IACM. "In addition to the inherent complexities of our technical environment, we also had high volume throughput to consider. We're processing +60GB of data with hundreds of thousands of changes per day, involving thousands of tables. Attunity was our technological savior; their customization capabilities truly made our long-shot plans possible."

Ultimately, Attunity's solution helped IACM to offer the people of Macau a more efficient and timely service. According to IACM, previous service problems, such as customers having to wait long periods before acquiring vehicle license plate numbers, have since been diminished because the system allows real-time access to information. In another example of improved customer service, IACM's system is now synchronized with the Macau Police Department's (PSP) system, such that IACM is able to see right away when a person has paid the PSP for an illegal parking ticket, so that privileges such as license renewal can be re-permitted by IACM immediately. Lastly, while IACM used to be responsible for vehicles and driving licenses, that function is now separated and a new bureau has taken over this responsibility recently; however, the related data still resides within the IACM databases, and can now be accessed through their internal web platform, improving response time significantly.

"We continue to see the growing demand for real-time information and the value it brings to operational efficiencies and customer satisfaction," stated Byron Yeung, Managing Director of Attunity's Asia Pacific office in Hong Kong. "We are very pleased that the Macau Government adopted the Attunity ODR software and that we were able to address their business requirements and heterogeneous IT environment. We look forward to supporting the customer as they expand the use of our software."

Mr. Lei added, "By implementing Attunity StreamFlow for operational data replication, we were able to avoid hundreds and hundreds of dedicated IACM man hours spent on programming each change table-saving us significant time and money. We are now able to provide a much faster response to civilians' needs and we can work more efficiently with the police department as well as other government agencies. Now our processes are streamlined, and all departments have the correct, most up-to-date information to do their jobs."
