Atheros ships over 10 million Align 1-stream 11n chips

Oct 20, 2009 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- ATHR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Atheros Communications, a technology provider for wireless and wired communications, has shipped well over 10 million of its Align chips based on the 1-stream 802.11n standard.

The company began shipping the Align AR9285 single-chip PCI Express solution in the fourth quarter of 2008, targeting value-class netbook, notebook and desktop PCs, wireless routers, and consumer electronics devices.

With Align's compliance to this industry standard, users are assured that Align-based devices will interoperate with all other 11n-certified products, as well as with legacy WLAN devices.

Ben Naskar, vice president and general manager of Atheros's networking business unit, said: "Align has proven to be an ideal upgrade path from legacy WLAN for our customers looking to provide 11n-class performance in a wide array of products, including netbooks, entry-level gateways and access point/routers. We are very pleased that Align provides extraordinary value to the end user and has thus experienced such rapid market adoption."
