Software AG, a global leader in business infrastructure software, today announced that it is providing the University of Leipzig with a software license package valued at EUR3 million. The donated software will enable the university to expand its practical course offerings in the information systems and computer science departments. Software AG has close academic ties to 130 prominent universities and research institutes around the world - including the University of Leipzig - as of the current semester 2009/2010. This new university partnership is particularly valuable to Software AG: as part of its University Relations program, Software AG aims to gradually develop Leipzig into a center for promoting young IT talent through academia.
The collaboration kicks off on October 20, 2009, in a project seminar at the University of Leipzig's Information Systems Institute (IWI). Under the leadership of Prof. Bogdan Franczyk, holder of a chair in information management, information systems students working toward master's degrees will spend a semester learning about modern SOA technologies and using them in practical projects, for the first time. Each student workstation will be outfitted with a software package worth ca. EUR300,000*"including the webMethods product suite for service-oriented architecture (SOA) and the Adabas database management system (both from Software AG) - as well as web2test Web testing software from itCampus.
