The commission approved the contract Monday to help improve energy efficiency and lower the county's energy bills.
Commissioners will vote on the contract at their regular meeting Monday.
Chevron has already performed an energy audit for the county to determine the cost of installing more energy efficient lighting, bathroom fixtures, thermostat controls and other measures.
Athens City Schools has employed a similar energy-savings program and officials are pleased with the results.
Mapping upgrade
In another large expenditure, the commission approved purchasing a Planimetric map from Intergraph Services Company for $195,375. County Engineer Richard Sanders said the system would provide accurate GIS base mapping layers.
"This is for aerial photography," said Sanders. "It is an updating of what we have, which is a 1997 model."
