The operation served as the headquarters of Fort Dodge Animal Health, a former Wyeth subsidiary. Most of Fort Dodge Animal Health's business and administrative functions in Overland Park will move to Pfizer Animal Health's Madison, N.J., headquarters, the pharmaceutical company said Tuesday.
Some of the local employees will be offered jobs at other Pfizer sites. All remaining employees will have a chance to bid for jobs elsewhere, Pfizer said.
Pfizer put no timetable on the transition.
"It will be months, as opposed to weeks," said Pfizer spokesman Rick Chambers.
Pfizer's $68 billion acquisition of Wyeth was approved by regulators last week. Wyeth owned Fort Dodge Animal Health, which sold two plants in Iowa last month apparently to satisfy antitrust concerns of regulators.
The Overland Park employees who leave will be offered severance packages, the company said.
