The company is believed to be paving the way for its layout of future terminal products. The province of Mainland China will become the footing for its expansion in the solar energy field, said analysts. As a matter of fact, earlier, a thin film solar cell arm of UMC also had a desire to build works in the province.
This August, the board of the semiconductor approved the formation of UMC New Business Investment Corp., a wholly-owned arm for the investment in the solar and LED markets, said earlier reports. The arm will help UMC gain more momentum to further growth and raise its future assets turnover and profitability, said the Taiwan-based semiconductor.
