The man entered First State Bank, 3025 145th St. W., in Rosemount about 11 a.m., and pulled a white bandana up over his face. He pointed a black handgun at a teller and demanded cash. He then stuffed an undisclosed amount of money in his pants pocket and was last seen running west on 145th Street. Three Rosemount schools located near the bank were locked down as a precaution, Rosemount police chief Gary Kalstabakken said, adding it was the city's first bank robbery since October 2003. The robber is believed to be responsible for stick-ups at five other banks, including Tuesday's attempted robbery at Cherokee State Bank along Smith Avenue in St. Paul. In that case, the female teller refused to hand over any cash. He is described as white, in his 30s and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with a slender to medium build. During both robberies this week, he wore a red baseball cap with dark sunglasses resting on the brim. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis FBI at 612-376-3200, Rosemount police or Crime Stoppers. A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the robber. To see more of the Pioneer Press, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.twincities.com.
