New York Times Beats Estimates with Adjusted EPS of $0.16 (NYT)

Oct 22, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- NYT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- 10/22/2009 - The New York Times Company (NYSE:NYT) reported Q3 EPS of $0.16, ex-items, beating consensus analyst estimates for a loss of $0.01. Revenues for the quarter fell 16.9% year-over-year to $570.6 million, coming out ahead of consensus analyst estimates of $561.6 million. President and CEO Jane Robinson said, aEURoeOur third-quarter results reflect the positive benefits of the sustained actions we have been aggressively pursuing to reposition our businesses for the evolving future of the media industry." Commenting on outlook, she added, aEURoeLooking ahead, visibility remains limited for advertising in the fourth quarter. But as is the case across the media sector, we have seen encouraging signs of improvement in the overall economy and in discussions with our advertisers. Early in the fourth quarter, print advertising trends, in comparison to the third quarter, have improved modestly, while digital advertising trends are improving more significantly."
