TOSHIBA TO RELEASE PORTABLE FUEL CELL FOR ELECTRONIC DEVICES
TOKYO - Toshiba Corp. (TSE:6502) said Thursday that it will introduce a portable fuel cell for powering mobile electronics devices, the first such offering by a major manufacturer.
The Dynario is to go on sale next Thursday. Toshiba intends to sell just 3,000 units through its Web site to gauge demand.
CHINA HUADIAN'S ENERGY PROJECT SHOWS GREEN CREDENTIALS
BEIJING - A distributed energy power-generation project, said to be the largest of this kind in China, has been put into commercial operation in Guangzhou University Park, the China Huadian Group announced on Thursday.
According to the announcement, the two generators, with a capacity of 78MW each, have passed all test runs on Tuesday, marking the formal operation of the project.
BIOFUEL CROP PROJECT UNDERWAY IN VIETNAM
HANOI - The first stage of a US$1 million project focusing on vegetable and bio-fuel crops kicked off on Oct. 21 with the inauguration of a Vegetable Component Office at the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute (FAVRI) in Hanoi.
The Korean Project on International Agriculture (KOIPA), funded by the Korean Rural Development Administration (RDA), will be implemented for the next three years, from 2009-12.

HANOI - Big and small Swedish companies are seeking opportunities to invest in energy efficiency projects and promote the use of clean technologies in Vietnam as part of efforts to contribute the nations environmental protection.
In his recent interview with the Dau Tu (Investment) Review, the Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Rolf Bergman, mentioned ABB, Ericsson, and Munters Group as among those companies.
VIETNAMESE BANKS PROVIDE CREDITS TO EXPLOIT GOLD TUNA OILFIELD
HANOI - Three Vietnamese banks will jointly provide a loan up to US$51 million to the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) to explore oil and gas in the Ca Ngu Vang (Gold Tuna) oilfield.
The three banks are the Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB), Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) and Saigon Hanoi Bank (SHB).
NEXUS' LONGTOM GAS PROJECT OFFSHORE VICTORIA STARTS PRODUCTION
PERTH - Nexus Energy Ltd (ASX:NXS) says its long-awaited $A315 million (US$292.35 million) Longtom gas project offshore from Victoria has commenced production.
Nexus said on Friday in a statement that it was undertaking commissioning of the production and processing system in conjunction with Santos Ltd.

INDIA'S EGOM TO ALLOCATE GAS TO POWER, REFINERY FIRMS
NEW DELHI - An Empowered Group of Ministers headed by Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee will meet shortly to decide on allocation of natural gas produced by Reliance Industries (BSE:500325) to users in power, petrochemical and refinery sectors.
The seven-member EGoM (a Cabinet sub-committee) may meet as early as this week, sources in know said.
PERTAMINA'S PARTNERS TO DISTRIBUTE 1% SUBSIDIZED FUELS
JAKARTA - Three would-be partners of Indonesian state-owned oil and gas Pertamina in the distribution of subsidized fuel oils (BBM) will get only about one per cent of subsidized BBM for distribution in 2010, an oil official said.
"Pertamina will remain to control subsidized BBM business in 2010 because it will get a quota of 99 per cent," Adi Subagyo of the Committee of the Down-Stream Oil and Gas Regulating Board (BPH Migas), said on Thursday.
INDIA'S KEC INTL BAGS POWER EQUIPMENT ORDERS WORTH US$101 MLN
MUMBAI - Indian power transmission company KEC International (BSE:532714) said it has bagged orders aggregating to Rs 4.70 billion (US$101 million) from the Middle East and Africa to design, engineer and supply power distribution equipment.
The company has bagged orders from clients in Saudi Arabia and Chad for construction and supply of power distribution equipment, KEC International said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Thursday.
ANALYSIS - CHINA TO CREATE BIG HOME MARKET FOR SOLAR PV PRODUCTS
BEIJING - China is to carry out studies on policy to expand domestic demand for solar photovoltaic (PV) products and encourage domestic multi-crystalline silicon makers to focus on China's indigenous market, said Chen Qiufa, vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology.
Speaking at the 2009 Western China International Economy and Trade Fair in Chengdu, Chen said that the government would maintain strict control on the new launch of multi-crystalline silicon projects, as they demand a great deal of electrical power.
N. KOREA EMPLOYS 3,000 WORKERS IN 20 NUCLEAR FACILITIES: LAWMAKER
SEOUL - North Korea reportedly employs 3,000 workers in 20 facilities dedicated to developing the country's nuclear program, according to a lawmaker Thursday.
Rep. Lee Mi-kyung of the main opposition Democratic Party, citing a report submitted by the Unification Ministry, claimed the country runs 20 nuclear facilities -- 11 in a nuclear complex in Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang, and nine uranium-related mines and facilities in Pyongsan and Sunchon in North Hwanghae Province and South Pyongan Province, respectively.
BANGLADESH GRP AGAINST ANY MOVE TO AWARD PHULBARI COAL MINE TO US CO
DHAKA - Accusing the Bangladesh government of initiating a move to award Phulbari Coal Mine to US-based Asia Energy for open pit mining, leaders of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Natural Resources, Power and Port Wednesday warned it would resist any such step.
"The committee will resist at any cost any such move to award Phulbari Coal Mine to Asia Energy," convener of the committee Engineer Muhammad Shahidullah said while exchanging views with professionals in Mukti Auditorium of the CPD office in the city.
INDONESIA COAL CO BUKIT ASAM WINS LICENSE TO BUILD RAILWAY PJT
JAKARTA - Indonesian coal producer PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (JSX:PTBA) has secured the license to build a US$1.28 billion railway project to facilitate coal transport from its coal mine in South Sumatra.
The railway will link Tanjung Enim coal mine and the Tarahan port 307 kilometers away in Lampung, Achamd Sudarto, the corporate secretary of the state company sad.
KOREA'S SHINHAN ENGINEERING WINS US$150 MLN ORDER FROM YEMEN
SEOUL - South Korea's Shinhan Engineering & Construction Co. (KSE:005450) said Thursday that it has signed a US$150 million preliminary deal to build a wind farm in western Yemen.
The deal with the Yemeni government calls for Shinhan Engineering to build 30 wind generators with a generating capacity of 2 megawatts.
