LaserCard has developed many new processes and capabilities allowing it to combine optical security media with commonly used machine-readable technologies such as barcodes, optical character recognition, contact chips, contactless chips, RFID tags and magnetic stripes. This flexibility allows governments and other organizations to implement secure, multi-functional ID credential programs serving a variety of vital purposes.
A prime example of this multi-technology smart card approach is LaserCard's new ID credential for uniformed and civilian employees of the Carabinieri, Italy's national police force. For this project, LaserCard custom-designed and pioneered a new card construction that seamlessly integrates four technologies -- optical security media, OCR-B, contact chip and RF-enabled contactless chip -- while ensuring compliance with all relevant international standards.
Luigi Mezzanotte, President of Laser Memory Card S.p.A., a LaserCard partner, will speak about the Carabinieri project during the 'International Government Use Cases' session on October 30. During the event, LaserCard will exhibit at booth #207.
