Clark is one of 10 national finalists in the Hasbro "Ready, Go Play-Doh" food sculpture contest and New York state's only representative. The task was to create a meal out of Play-Doh and send in the picture to Hasbro. Clark and her parents, Richard and Lynne, found out last week that Teagan's "Friday Night Fish Fry" was one of the finalists.
The fish fry sculpture consists of fish, with a lemon wedge, vegetables and a potato. Clark sent a number of different meals to Hasbro for the contest, but the fish fry was the one the judges selected as a finalist.
"I did spaghetti with meatballs, a pretzel and chicken wings," Teagan Clark said.
"She does good work," Lynne Clark said.
After Teagan's submissions were sent, Lynne saw on the Hasbro Web site that the fish fry had made the cut. Now it is up to the public, who will vote on the 10 finalists listed on the site at hasbro.promotions.com/playdoh. People over the age of 18 can vote daily until voting ends Oct. 31.
The judges looked at a number of things with each entry, such as how colorful it was, its uniqueness and its quality, Lynne Clark said. They also wanted to know if any Play-Doh tools were used, such as a knife or a rolling pin. It's against the rules, though, to use a real plate or cup, the Clarks said. Instead you have to make your own.
Teagan, 7, is a third-grader at W. H. Stevenson Elementary School in the Wilson School District. She said her favorite subjects include reading, math and most of her specials, which include music, art and physical education. She is busy outside of school, as she dances at the McCarthy School of Irish Dance and loves to ride horses. It's a full house at the Clark home, with two rabbits, a dog and a bird, in addition to Teagan, her parents and brothers Ryan and Justin.
While she says she doesn't play with Play Doh all that often, Teagan said it didn't take long to make the fish fry Play Doh dinner. The contest gave the kids about a month to make their sculptures, take a picture and submit the picture to Hasbro. Kids could send as many entries as they liked.
The Clark family found out about the Hasbro contest through a variety of ways.
"We saw it on different Web sites and ads in stores, it was well-advertised," Lynne Clark said.
The community is behind Clark. Both the school district and the Wilson Support Our School organization have put a link on their Web sites encouraging people to vote. Stevenson Principal Michael Cancilla said Clark is very creative, as seen with both her work in art and Clark's Irish dancing.
"She is a very talented young girl. She did a really nice job," Cancilla said.
If Teagan Clark wins, Stevenson Elementary School would win $5,000 from Hasbro. The Clarks will find out Nov. 1 who the winner is.
