MILTON, ONTARIO, Oct 23, 2009 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- ESLU | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, today held a roundtable meeting that was focused on how best to advance the uptake of clean energy in Canada.

The Minister met with a diverse group of senior decision-makers ranging from government, industry and non-governmental organizations to the academic sector, to discuss Integrated Community Energy Solutions (ICES). Minister Raitt also announced the remaining dates and locations for the national roundtable sessions on renewable energy and clean energy research and development.

Participants shared their various perspectives on the path forward for ICES, highlighting success stories of communities that already incorporate this practice and identifying options to overcome potential obstacles to broad-scale incorporation of ICES in communities across the country.

"Our Government is collaborating with key stakeholders to determine the best path for Canada's energy future; today's discussions were a positive step forward," said Minister Raitt. "Together, we have made significant progress and we must keep this momentum going strong. These roundtables will help ensure that Canada remains a clean energy superpower while continuing to advance energy efficiency."

The national roundtable on Renewable Energy will take place on November 4 in Ottawa. The third roundtable, on Clean Energy Research and Development, will be split into a non-fossil fuel session on November 5 in Ottawa and a fossil fuel session on November 6 in Calgary.

Minister Raitt announced the creation of the roundtables in early September at the Council of Energy and Mines Ministers' meeting in Newfoundland and Labrador.
