At around 10:30 p.m., police responded to First Citizens Bank at 3200 Randleman Road on a bank robbery call.
Police said a man walked into the business saying he had a bomb strapped to his chest and demanded money from tellers.
The man made off with an unspecified amount of cash, according to police. No injuries were reported.
The suspect was described as a white man in his 30s, wearing a red coat, a hat and aviator-style sunglasses.
He reportedly fled the area in a white minivan with a license plate on the front bumper.
Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
Callers remain anonymous and are eligible for cash rewards.
