US Bank Failures Top 100 Mark

-- 10/24/2009-The total number of failed US banks in 2009 eclipsed the 100 level, marking the first occurrence since 1992, as seven banks were seized Friday. Three in Florida and one in Georgia, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois were seized according to a report from the FDIC, pushing the total to 106. In August, the FDIC announced that its list of "problem lenders" totaled 416 and had combined assets of $299.8 billion.
